Azienda Sanitaria dell'Alto Adige - Comprensorio sanitario di Bolzano

Bolzano, Italy

With its 7 hospitals (in Bolzano, Merano, Bressanone, Silandro, Brunico, Vipiteno, and San Candido) including a total of 1700 beds, the health authority of Alto Adige is the largest health unit in the province of Bolzano. One of its strategic objectives, in recent years, has been to certify the therapeutic processes related to cancer patients (ISO certification in 2014) and to implement research projects. By means of its R&D activities, the healthcare authority of Alto Adige is committed to increase the number of patients treated in the context of clinical studies or scientific projects. In this context, several collaborations have been initiated with the Medical University of Innsbruck, and a local scientific organization IMREST - Interdisciplinar Medical Research Center South Tyrol was created.Alto Adige’s healthcare authority is also creating departments certified by the Austrian medical order, and it is collaborating with local entities, private clinics and research facilities that are active in the area. The main hospital in Bolzano has a centralized pathology that collects and evaluates samples from cancer patients from all over the province. All cancer cases are discussed by a centralized and interdisciplinary corporate tumor board. Alto Adige’s healthcare authority has already been involved in the past in Interreg projects concerning melanoma and allergies.
